Champions League Final To Be Moved Out Of Russia Due To Ukraine Invasion, Decision Today: Report

The Ukrainian football authority also wants the UEFA Super Cup, which is scheduled to be played at Kazan in Russia in 2023, to be moved out.

The final of the Champions League was scheduled to take place at the Gazprom Arena in St Petersburg on 28 May this year. UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has called a meeting of the Executive Committee to confirm the decision to move the match. 

Due to escalating tensions in Ukraine, the UEFA has decided to strip Russia off from hosting the Champions League final, reported Sky Sports.

The Ukrainian football authority also wants the UEFA Super Cup, which is scheduled to be played at Kazan in Russia in 2023, to be moved out. 

"Following the evolution of the situation between Russia and Ukraine, the UEFA president has called an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee for 10:00 CET on Friday 25 February, in order to evaluate the situation and take all necessary decisions," the UEFA said in a tweet.

Further information will be given after the Executive Committee meeting, it said. 

UEFA shares the international community’s significant concern for the security situation developing in Europe and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion in Ukraine.
