BCCI Calls Special General Meeting On May 29 To Discuss Hosting T20 World Cup
BCCI has called for a Special General Meeting on May 29 to discuss the upcoming cricket season in India, including the T20 World Cup scheduled in October-November.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly called for a special general meeting (SGM) to be organized on May 29. In the meeting, there will be discussion on hosting the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India, later this year. BCCI has called its own meeting because the ICC will have a meeting on June 1.
The T20 World Cup is slated to be held in India in October-November. In this context, this meeting is considered to be important. There are speculations that due to Coronavirus, the tournament can take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"The ICC will have the meeting on June 1 and before that, we will have our own meeting on May 29 to discuss the COVID-19 situation and what all measures need to be taken with an eye on the T20 World Cup which is slated to be held in India in October-November," a source told ANI.
According to the report in ANI, BCCI has currently selected nine venues - Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad Chennai, Dharamshala and Lucknow - for the T20 World Cup, but many cities are still severely affected by Coronavirus pandemic.
"The nine venues have been informed and it was again discussed that preparations should continue for the showpiece event with an eye on the Covid-19 situation and a call will only be taken closer to the event. It is too early to imagine what can or will happen in October-November with regards to the coronavirus situation. But preparations shall be on," the BCCI source had told ANI.
Apart from the T20 World Cup, women's cricket and international events will be discussed in the BCCI meeting. The women's team is slated to tour England next month. The Women's ODI World Cup is to be held in New Zealand next year. In such a situation, both series are important for women's cricket team. IPL 2021 had to be postponed after 29 matches due to Covid-19 pandemic.
