On this day, one should definitely worship the pen and book as part of Lord Chitragupta's puja, since he keeps a record of a person's deeds. Therefore, remember Lord Chitragupta by performing a five-step ritual with the pen, and humbly pray for the pen to be received as a blessing.

It is believed that a pen worshiped in this manner becomes effective. According to religious beliefs, anything written with this pen becomes accurate and is aided by divine assistance.

On the night of Diwali, after worshiping the book, draw a swastika symbol with the pen, write "Shri Ganeshaya Namah," and then bow to Lord Ganesha with the intention of gaining wisdom and success before using the pen.

On Diwali, new account books are exchanged, and work on these new ledgers begins. This practice signifies fresh starts and prosperity for the coming year.
