- Britain's longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth passed away on September 8 after being on the throne for 70 years. The death of the 96-year-old sovereign brings to an end the longest reign in the history of the United Kingdom, and one of the longest reigns by any head of state.
- Charles, the oldest person to ever assume the British throne, became King Charles III on Thursday (September 8, 2022) following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
- China on Friday confirmed that the disengagement process of frontline troops had begun from Patrol Point-15 (Gogra-Hotsprings) area in eastern Ladakh, saying that the withdrawal of troops is conducive for peace and tranquillity along the Sino-India border.
- The United Nations on Thursday approved Austrian diplomat Volker Turk to be its new high commissioner for human rights, replacing former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet in the sensitive, high-profile post.
- North Korea has passed a law that allows it to execute nuclear strikes if enemy forces launch an attack against its leadership. The law passed on Thursday by the North's parliament— Supreme People's Assembly— effectively makes its nuclear-armed status "irreversible" and bars any talks on de-nuclearisation.

- The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan, arrested in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being gang-raped.
- The Supreme Court on Friday granted two weeks' time to the Centre to file its reply on pleas challenging the validity of certain provisions of a 1991 law, which prohibit the filing of a lawsuit to reclaim a place of worship or seek a change in its character from what prevailed on August 15, 1947. A three-judge bench headed by Chief justice Uday Umesh Lalit permitted all the applications, including the plea filed by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, to intervene in the hearing of the pleas on the validity of the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991.
- An Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal on Thursday complained of receiving abusive and hate messages over the phone asking her to go back to India. Chennai-born Jayapal tweeted a collection of five such audio messages received by her from a male caller.
- External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar will be paying an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from September 10-12 to discuss the entire bilateral relationship between India and Saudi Arabia and also to co-chair the inaugural Ministerial meeting of the Committee on Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation (PSSC), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially announced on Friday.
- The third day of the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra took place in Tamil Nadu’s Nagercoil on Friday with party leader Rahul Gandhi hoisting the national flag at Scott Christian College. He interacted with farmers from Tamil Nadu, who had protested with skulls to signify the suicide of farmers at Jantar Mantra during the farmers' protest.

- Hulu has announced that 'The Handmaid's Tale' will be renewed for a sixth season. Its 5th season will premiere on September 14. The executive producer of the show, Bruce Miller, recently shared new updates about the popular series at a press conference. .

IOC issues final warning to IOA, to suspend India if elections are not held by December.
