Earlier, the record of most runs by an Indian batsman vs Proteas was held by Mohammed Azharuddin (388 runs).

Rohit achieved the unique milestone of becoming the first Indian batsman to complete double-century with a six in Test history.

HITMAN Sharma also became the first Indian to score 500+ runs in a series against South Africa.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag was the last Indian opener to score over 500 runs in a Test series, which he attained vs arch-rivals Pakistan in 2005.
