Captain Amarinder Singh is a member of the Patiala royal family and a veteran of the Indian Army. Following his time in the Shiromani Akali Dal, he joined the Congress in 2009 and was elected Chief Minister of Punjab for the 2017-2022 term. His reign, however, was cut short since he withdrew from the party owing to internal issues, most likely a power struggle.
