Camilla Rosemary Shand was born on July 17, 1947, at King's College Hospital in London. Annabel Elliot is her younger sister. Camilla attended a finishing school in Switzerland to prepare her for life as a debutante in London society. She was popular, and she had an on-and off romance with a Household Cavalry officer named Andrew Parker Bowles in the mid-1960s. In the early 1970s, she met the young Prince Charles who was seeking a Navy career. In late 1972, he embarked on an eight-month tour overseas. While he was gone, Andrew proposed to Camilla, who accepted. Regardless of how rejected Charles felt, they remained in each other's lives and they socialised together, Charles and Andrew played polo together, and the couple requested Charles to be the godfather of their first child, Tom. Charles had met and proposed to Lady Diana Spencer by the summer of 1981, while Camilla remained a part of his life. Without a doubt, Diana struggled with Camilla's connection with her husband.
