Zoya Akhtar is the director of this musical drama film, which was written by Akhtar and Reema Kagti.

Under the auspices of Tiger Baby Films and Excel Entertainment productions, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and American rapper Nas produced the movie. Nas served as executive producer.

Ranveer Singh plays the lead part alongside Alia Bhatt while Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, and Vijay Raaz are seen in key roles.

The film tells the coming-of-age story of ambitious street rapper Murad Ahmed (Singh), who comes from the Dharavi slums of Mumbai. It is inspired on the lives of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy
