WATCH: A ‘Dentist’ Who Works Undersea, And 'Cleans' Scuba Diver's Teeth For Free

The crustacean species known as 'white-banded cleaner shrimp' is known to pick parasites from other sea creatures.

New Delhi: A video of a scuba diver getting his teeth cleaned underwater is widely shared on the internet. The ‘dentist’ in the video is actually a shrimp.

Twitter handle Amazing Nature shared the video on April 8, and it has been viewed more than 1 lakh times.

“Need teeth clean contact me,” the caption with the video post reads.

The 59-second video shows the unnamed scuba diver near a coral reef undersea. The shrimp is first seen picking on the reef, and it soon enters the diver’s open mouth. It then picks bits of food from his teeth, and cleans his gums with its feet as the diver patiently lets the crustacean play the floss.

The shrimp later leaves the diver’s mouth and goes back to the coral reef.

The video, which was also shared on Facebook, is generating a lot of buzz.

“Shrimp be like, sir u are not flossing daily,” posted a user.

“Nature works if we respect,” said another.

One user found it “gross”, another called the shrimp a “crentist”, while yet another user asked if “Dr Shrimp” was giving appointments.

In a 2017 report on what looks like a similar video, which showed a scuba diver from the South Pacific Ocean nation of Vanuatu, Science Insider said the crustacean is known as 'white-banded cleaner shrimp'. The video posted on Facebook said these shrimps pick parasites from other sea creatures.
