Mizoram Polls: Aizawl South-III Sees 87% Turnout In Repolling. MNF, ZPM Exude Confidence Of Victory
Mizoram's Aizawl South-III constituency underwent repolling on Friday wherein 1,084 voters exercised their franchise. The repolling was necessitated due to voting personnel's failure to clear the mock poll.
In Mizoram's Aizawl South-III constituency, where repolling was conducted at Muallungthu polling station, a significant 87 per cent of the 1,084 voters exercised their franchise on Friday. The repolling was necessitated due to voting personnel's failure to clear the mock poll ahead of the main voting held on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported. The candidates in the constituency include sitting MLA Lalnunmawia from the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), debutant Baryl Vanneihsangi from Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), Rosiamngheta from Congress, and independent candidate Zaichhawna Hlawndo of the Zoramthar group.
The initial polling for the 40-member Mizoram assembly took place on Tuesday with an overall voter turnout of 80.43 per cent, and the counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.

Mizoram Election 2023: CM Zoramthanga, ZPM's Lalliansawta Exude Confidence Of Victory
Chief Minister and MNF President Zoramthanga expressed confidence in his party's victory in the Mizoram assembly polls. Addressing MNF workers in Aizawl, Zoramthanga stated, "We will retain power with the help of God and the people. We will lead and serve our state in a more efficient way and with renewed vigour." Despite challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic, earthquakes, border disputes, and influx issues in the past five years, Zoramthanga asserted that the government tried its best to address the problems and expressed gratitude for reaching its current position, PTI reported. He commended MNF workers for their efforts and highlighted the peaceful conduct of the assembly elections, with a total voter turnout of 80.62 per cent.
Meanwhile, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) president Lalliansawta conveyed optimism about his party's prospects in the Mizoram assembly elections. Speaking to party workers in Aizawl, Lalliansawta expressed confidence in ZPM's victory despite being a young party with a mix of experienced and novice politicians. He mentioned the absence of internal issues within the party and believed that they would come to power. Lalliansawta said, "Even as poll results are yet to be declared, we are confident that we will come to power", as quoted by PTI.
ZPM contested all 40 seats in the recent state assembly polls, aiming for a positive outcome after securing eight constituencies in the 2018 assembly polls. The ruling MNF and the Congress contested 40 seats each. The BJP fielded candidates in 23 seats and the Aam Aadmi Party, making its electoral debut, contested 4 seats.
