Manipur Violence: 11-Year-Old Among 2 Injured In Firing In Bishnupur District

Guwahati: Two people, including a child, were injured in firing by armed miscreants in trouble-torn Manipur early on Friday. The injured, Wahida Aribam (35) and Md Sabir Ahmed Moijingmayum (11), were residents of a Kwakta town, Bishnupur district. Both the victims sustained bullet injuries and were initially admitted to the Kwakta primary health centre from where they were referred to the Raj Medicity hospital in state capital Imphal.
The armed miscreants entered the town in the morning hours and resorted to indiscriminate firing thus creating panic among the residents. However, the identity of the assailants could not be ascertained.
The police have registered a case against unknown assailants and a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits involved in the attack.

Earlier in the day, curfew was relaxed in Imphal East and West districts for seven hours to facilitate the public to buy their essential commodities.
With the seven hour relaxation of the curfew, people in large numbers came out of their houses to purchase their essential items.
All the markets in state capital Imphal witnessed a heavy crowd. Security forces kept a strict vigil during the relaxation period ensuring that no sporadic incident took place.
Curfew was re-imposed in the Imphal West and Imphal East districts of the state on Thursday, after clashes between security forces and the public broke out in Churachandpur district.
Meanwhile, the police facilitated the movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities on National Highway 37 and 32 thus ensuring that there is no shortage of fuel and other essential items.
The state police in a statement on Thursday appealed to the public not to believe in rumours and to be aware of fake videos. A helpline has also been set up to enable people to report fake videos and rumour mongering.
The overall situation in the strife-torn state continues to be tense with the security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), keeping a tight vigil in all the affected areas to avoid any untoward incident.
