Internet Ban Extended In Manipur For 5 More Days Till June 30

Amid the prevailing unrest in the northeastern state of Manipur, the State government on Sunday extended the internet ban till June 30.

The government of Manipur on Sunday extended the internet ban in the state for a period of five days till 3 Pm on June 30 to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of the State. This comes a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired an all-party meeting on the prevailing situation in the state.

Meanwhile, stand-off between a mob led by women and security forces came to an end after the Army took a “mature decision” to not risk civilians and left with seized weapons and ammunition, officials said on Sunday. The stand-off stemmed after a dozen members of KYKL militant group were hiding in Imphal East’s Itham village following which the security forces had cordoned off the area. Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday told an all-party meeting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been continuously monitoring the situation in strife-torn Manipur, as per PTI report. 

Shah also told the meeting that the situation in the north eastern state was slowly returning to normal and not a single person has died since June 13 in the violence. 

Congress has attacked the Centre over the all-party meeting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired on Saturday over the continuous unrest in Manipur. Former State CM & party leader Okram Ibobi Singh said that Amit Shah did not want to 'listen'. He said that he told him it was not time to politicise the issue as normalcy needs to be brought into the state.

"When I started giving my suggestions, I think he did not want to listen. I also mentioned that this was not the time to politicise the issue as normalcy needs to be brought in the state. I asked him to give me at least 5 mins to speak on the issue but he asked me to meet him separately," Singh said.

Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha said that the entire opposition said that the person heading the state of Manipur is not trustworthy. He said this after Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened an all-party meeting over the persisting unrest in the northeastern state. Without naming CM N Biren Singh, Jha said that there cannot be peace in the state till he (Singh) is in charge.
