Biden Calls Trump To Congratulate Him, Promises Smooth Transition Of Power

Biden also spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris and congratulated her on her historic campaign.

United States President Joe Biden called President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday to congratulate him on his victory. During his call with Trump, Biden said that he was committed to ensuring a smooth transition and emphasised the importance of working together to bring the country together.

“He also invited president-elect Trump to meet with him in the White House. The staff will coordinate a specific date in the near future. Tomorrow, President Biden will address the nation to discuss the election results and the transition,” the White House said.

Meanwhile, Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung Trump looked forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly, and very much appreciated the call.

According to the White House statement, Biden also spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris and congratulated her on her historic campaign.

Harris said she spoke to President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory.

She told Trump that they would help him and his team in their transition and that “we will engage in a peaceful transition of power”.

“In our nation, we owe loyalty not to a president or a party but to the constitution of the United States,” she said in an emotional concession speech at her alma mater Howard University.

“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fuelled this campaign,” Harris said.

Harris also called on her supporters not to give up their fights to protect the country’s foundational principles.

After Donald Trump's big win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Trump on Wednesday, to congratulate him on his victory. PM Modi said he looked forward to working together with him again to further strengthen India-US relations.

In the election, 78-year-old Trump pulled off an incredible comeback wresting 291 electoral college votes against Harris’ 223 in a fierce contest that almost left the Americans with two world views.
