Former Rivals Haley, DeSantis Endorse Donald Trump At Republican Convention

Former United States President and Republican nominee Donald Trump received full-throated endorsements of his candidature at the party's convention on Tuesday from former leading rivals for the party’s nomination, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis.

The two extended their support to Trump in a display of unity three days after he survived an assassination attempt.

Haley, who had described the former US President as unelectable and unfit for office during her campaign, nevertheless urged her supporters to vote for him over Democratic President Joe Biden "for the sake of our nation," as reported by news agency Reuters.

Haley, the former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina governor, took the stage during the party's convention and said, "You don't have to agree with Trump 100% of the time to vote for him." "Take it from me," she added.

"I will start by making one thing perfectly clear. Donald Trump has my strong endorsement," she said.

"When Barack Obama was president, Vladimir Putin invaded Crimea. When Joe Biden was president, Putin invaded all of Ukraine. But when Donald Trump was president, Putin did nothing. No invasion no wars. Putin didn't attack Ukraine because he knew Donald Trump was tough. A strong president doesn't start wars. A strong president prevents wars," She further stated.

DeSantis, the conservative Florida governor, received a warm welcome from the crowd. While spelling at the convention, he launched a scathing attack on President Joe Biden and called him too old for the job.

Trump was sitting in his box in the arena alongside his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance.

Trump entered the arena around 8 PM local time on Wednesday to a raucous ovation, just as he did on Monday in his first public appearance since a gunman tried to assassinate him on Saturday at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.
