US Election Results 2024 LIVE Updates: Former US President Donald Trump on Wednesday secured his second term in the White House by crossing the 270-electoral vote mark. Trump has won 277 votes, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, according to Fox News.
While the counting of votes in several states is still on, Fox News projections said Trump has secured 277 electoral votes and is on the way to winning 35 more votes, taking his tally to 312. Meanwhile, his Democrat rival Harris managed to secure just 226 electoral votes. To win the presidency, a candidate has to secure 270 electoral votes — a majority of the 538 possible votes.
In his first speech after crossing the majority mark, Trump promised that he would “not rest until we have delivered the strong safe and prosperous America.”
“Every single day,” Trump said, “I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body.”
In the US, the Electoral College, a 538-member body, elects a president. Each state’s electors vote for the candidate who won the popular vote in that state. The runner-up gets nothing — except in Nebraska and Maine where elector votes are awarded based on congressional district and statewide results.
Election Day unfolded relatively smoothly in the United States, except for the reports of scattered delays and disruptions. After an election season marked by concerns over disinformation, foreign influence and threats, a few hoax calls tried to disrupt the process for a short time, but voting resumed without much delay.
This US presidential election was crucial for Americans as its outcomes are likely to shape both the nation's future and global geopolitics over the next four years. Earlier, exit polls indicated it would be a neck-and-neck battle between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump. The race remained stubbornly deadlocked for weeks with some of the election forecasters giving 60-year Harris an edge over former President Trump, 78, in some of the key battleground states like Pennsylvania.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman and his son, de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory on Wednesday, AFP reported.
King Salman hailed "close relations between the two friendly countries and peoples, which everyone seeks to strengthen and develop in all fields", the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump for his victory in the US presidential election, hoping India-US relations will further strengthen under his leadership.
Congratulating Trump on his victory in the election, VHP international president Alok Kumar said the US leader had talked about the security of Hindu society and assured that under his leadership, there will be no attacks on Hindus anywhere.
"We congratulate and extend him our best wishes for his historic victory," he said in a statement. "We hope that under his leadership, Indo-US relations will further strengthen with our shared heritage and values of democracy, dignity of the individuals, and rule of law," Kumar said, ading "Both nations will go ahead for global peace and prosperity".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his second election victory.
According to the prime minister’s office, Netanyahu was among the first to call Trump. A statement from the prime minister’s office read that the "conversation was warm and cordial". It said "the two agreed to work together for Israel’s security" and "discussed the Iranian threat", CNN reported.
Earlier, Netanyahu posted on X that Trump’s win was “historic” and “offers a new beginning for America.”
