UK Elections: Labour Set To Make Comeback As Exit Poll Forecast Bruising Defeat For Sunak

UK General Elections 2024: Labour is set to win the elections with a majority of 170 while the Conservatives are predicted to slump to 131 MPs, their lowest number ever.

UK General Election 2024: The Labour Party is set to sweep the UK general elections with a landslide majority as exit polls figures showed a crushing defeat for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak after voting closed in the country on early hours of Friday. If the exit poll predictions come out true, Sir Keir Starmer will become the prime minister with 410 Labour MPs, just short of Tony Blair's 1997 total.

According to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV, and the Sky, Labour is set to win the elections with a majority of 170 while the Conservatives are predicted to slump to 131 MPs, their lowest number ever.

The Liberal Democrats are projected to finish third with 61 MPs. The number of MPs from the Scottish National Party is also expected to fall to 10 while Reform UK is likely to send 13 MPs, as per the exit poll, reported BBC.

The number of MPs could double to two from the Green Party of England and Wales and Plaid Cymru is set to get four MPs while Others may get 19 seats.

As the votes closed, both Starmer and Sunak thanked volunteers and voters. "To everyone who has campaigned for Labour in this election, to everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour Party - thank you," Starmer said on X.

"To the hundreds of Conservative candidates, thousands of volunteers and millions of voters: Thank you for your hard work, thank you for your support, and thank you for your vote," said Sunak.

The exit poll is based on data from voters at about 130 polling stations in England, Scotland, and Wales while the poll does not cover Northern Ireland, as per the BBC report.

In the last six UK elections, only one got the outcome wrong. The other five have been accurate to within a range of 1.5 and 7.5 seats, stated Reuters.  Official result will follow over the next few hours.
