Terrifying Video: Elevator Falls At Building As 'Strongest Storm of 2018' Hits Hong Kong

NEW DELHI: A construction elevator shaft reportedly fell on top of a housing development project building during typhoon Mangkhut on Sunday. Typhoon Mangkhut had slammed into mainland China late Sunday after leaving a trail of destruction in Hong Kong and Macau. It is said that least 59 people were killed in the northern Philippines due to the storm and the world’s biggest storm this year which sent skyscrapers swaying. In many regions, trees were broken in half, while some windows in tower blocks were smashed and skyscrapers swayed in the wind. In the high-rise city of Hong Kong, the government described the damage as "severe and extensive" with more than 300 people injured in Mangkhut, which triggered the maximum "T10" typhoon alert. News agency Independent reported that Police evacuated 40 residents and no one was harmed. The structure fell onto the roof of a nearby building. After tearing through Luzon and pummelling Hong Kong and Macau, the storm made landfall in mainland China late Sunday, with two reported dead in Guangdong province. The storm, with gusts of more than 230 kilometres per hour (142 mph), sent buildings swaying and waters surging into homes and shopping malls in Hong Kong, with some roads waist-deep in water. Windows in tower blocks and skyscrapers were smashed as people cowered inside.
