SGPC Invites Pakistan PM Imran Khan On International Nagar Kirtan At Attari-Wagah Border On July 25

SGPC, the apex body of Sikhs, manages historic Gurdwaras worldwide and it will hold three seminars in Pakistan to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev this month.

New Delhi: The Sikh community representing Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has extended invitation to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to participate in its International Nagar Kirtan beginning from Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan on July 25. SGPC, the apex body of Sikhs, manages historic Gurdwaras worldwide and it will hold three seminars in Pakistan to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev this month. Besides Imran Khan, the invitations are also extended to Pakistan Punjab’s governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Pakistan Punjab’s chief minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. Evacuee Trust Property Board chairman Amir Ahmad and PSGPC president Tara Singh are also invited for the event, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said. Longowal also said the SGPC had also written a letter to Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh for the welcome of international nagar kirtan upon its arrival at Attari border. He added that the SGPC had also urged him to get the required police and administrative arrangements in place for the Nagar Kirtan. Meanwhile, the SAD delegation apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Sikh Sangat worldwide wanted to mark the 550th anniversary celebrations by holding appropriate commemorative functions at all places visited by the Sikh guru. In a statement issued by the SAD, Sukhbir Singh Badal was quoted as saying that PM Modi has instructed the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the Nagar Kirtan. The prime minister assured the delegation to facilitate these functions through Indian Missions abroad and to provide all needed support to the organisers, Badal said. The SGPC is preparing a list of venues where functions will be held and the same will be released to the Sikh Sangat soon, the statement claimed. The delegation also included Rajya Sabha MP Balwinder Singh Bhundur, DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Patna Sahib representative Avtar Singh Hit.
