Scotland: Several Injured After Ship Topples Over At Edinburgh Dockyard. Video

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman stated that a ship overturned in a dry dock in Leith, near Edinburgh, Scotland, injuring multiple individuals.

More than two dozen people after a ship carrying passengers partially capsized at a dock in Scotland on Wednesday, reported Anadolu Agency.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman stated that a ship overturned in a dry dock in Leith, near Edinburgh, Scotland, injuring multiple individuals.

A statement on Wednesday added that there were five ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams, and other specialists on the scene.

A large ship was shown in Twitter photos propped up against the wall of a dry dock. The incident was caused by strong winds, according to a social media post made by a local council member.

In order to allow emergency services access, Edinburgh Police asked people to stay away from the area.

"We received a call at 0829 hours today to attend an incident in Leith. We have dispatched five ambulances, an air ambulance, three trauma teams, our special operations team, three paramedic response units and one patient transport vehicle," said a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman.

"We transported 15 patients to the hospital; 11 to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and four to Western General Hospital. A further 10 patients were treated and discharged at the scene," he added.

Anadolu Agency reported that as a result of the incident, local health authorities advised people not to use the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh's accidents and emergency services because of the strain on its resources.

The Petrel is seen leaning at a 45-degree angle in the pictures of the scene. Paul Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft, purchased and outfitted the research vessel The Petrel.

Manchester Evening News, a local newspaper, reported that residents should stay away from the area at all costs while the operation is being carried out.

Adam McVey, a councillor for Leith, stated that strong winds caused the ship to become dislodged and that the event was "terrifying" for those on board.

"Emergency services are responding to a major incident at Leith docks - a ship has been dislodged from its holding in strong winds. Terrifying for those on board, my thoughts are with those who've been injured & hope everyone recovers quickly. Please avoid area," he wrote on Twitter.

According to Anadolu Agency, the international maritime charity The Sailors' Society has announced their assistance for those in need.
