Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Indian Embassy Issues Fresh Advisory For People Crossing Into Poland

The Government of Poland is allowing people to cross the border on foot only via Shehyni-Medyka border point, the advisory further stated. 

New Delhi: Indian nationals who are arriving at the Ukraine-Poland border through public transport have been advised to make for the Shehyni-Medyka border crossing, said the Indian Embassy in Warsaw. 

The fresh advisory comes as India firms up its plans to evacuate its nationals stranded in Ukraine due to a Russian military offensive. On Friday, Russian forces moved deep into Ukraine on the second day of the invasion.

The Government of Poland is allowing people to cross the border on foot only via Shehyni-Medyka border point, the advisory further stated.

"The other crossing which is the Krakowiec crossing is only open for persons who are travelling in their own vehicles," the order said.

"Indian nationals who are crossing to Poland have been asked to fill in their details in a Google form https://forms.gle/TPmtUeMh98Q4XgvP9 to process their requests to make arrangements for the seats in the repatriation flights which will be arranged shortly," the advisory said.

An embassy official, Pankaj Garg (contact number: +48660460815), has been stationed at the Shehyni-Medyka Border crossing. The embassy office at the Krakowiec border will be operational later in the day, the advisory read. 

Following the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian government has closed its airspace. On Friday, the Indian government said that it was planning on evacuating Indians thhrough land borders with Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania.

Air India is planning to operate two flights to Romanian capital Bucharest on Friday to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine.

Indian nationals who have reached the Ukraine-Romania border by road will be taken to Bucharest by officials of the Indian government so that they can be evacuated in the two Air India flights, PTI quoted government officials as saying.
