Pak: Imran Khan's auction of vehicles flops; first successful bidders disappear without submitting token amount

The first successful bidders reportedly disappeared without submitting token amount after noticing that they might have given a higher bid. The committee then had to hold auction of the nine vehicles again.

New Delhi: Pakistan government’s auction of vehicles, under the much-hyped austerity drive, fell  headlong as lower than expected sales marked the event. Khan had vowed to raise quick revenue by cutting off perks given to government officials. As a part of his austerity drive, he had promised to convert the PM House into a public building and to auction government motorcade for a quick fund. However, the auction on Monday raised about 200 million rupees ($1.6 million), government official Mohammad Asif told local Geo TV. That is just one-tenth of the amount he had predicted, and only 61 of just over 100 vehicles were sold. As per Dawn News, the first successful bidders disappeared without submitting token amount after noticing that they might have given a higher bid. The committee then had to hold auction of the nine vehicles again. As per Dawn News, the expensive bulletproof and bombproof vehicles of Prime Minister could not attract buyers’ attention. During the daylong activity only 61 vehicles of the 102 luxury vehicles, were sold, in the event organised in the lawns of the Prime Minister House. As per Dawn News, a reinforced Land Cruiser V8 got higher auctioned price of Rs 27.4 million. As per reports, the participants were confused because tax rates were included in auction amount affixed to windscreens of the vehicles. Many people did not bid for vehicles they wanted because they felt that the amount was high and they were reportedly expecting lesser costs for the year-old-vehicles. They were later told that tax was included in the affixed amount.
