Israeli Tank Accidentally Hits Egyptian Post Amid Gaza Border Assault, IDF Says Probe Initiated
One of Israeli tanks accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post" near the Gaza border as the army continued to bombard the Palestinian enclave.
The Israeli military issued a statement on Sunday acknowledging that one of its tanks had "accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post" near the Gaza border as the army continues to bombard the Palestinian enclave. The Egyptian military confirmed the incident, stating that it resulted in "minor injuries," although specific details were not provided, news agency AFP reported.
An official statement from the Israeli military expressed remorse for the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of the Kerem Shalom area. The statement conveyed that the incident is currently under investigation, with the details being reviewed.
Egypt's armed forces also indicated that Israel swiftly expressed regret for the unintentional occurrence, with an investigative process already underway.
According to Egyptian media sources cited by AFP, the Israeli strike is not expected to disrupt the flow of aid to Gaza. Meanwhile, AFP reported witnesses as saying that, since Saturday, 37 trucks carrying essential supplies have successfully entered Gaza through the Rafah border post, situated approximately three kilometers from Israel.
Crossings between Gaza and Israel have remained closed since the commencement of the conflict on October 7. The United Nations estimates that around 100 trucks per day are required to meet the humanitarian needs of Gaza, a region that has witnessed over 4,650 casualties as a result of Israeli airstrikes, as reported by the Hamas government.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a visit to the area near the Lebanese border in northern Israel. During his visit, Netanyahu warned that if hostilities were to intensify, Hezbollah "will make the mistake of its life", AFP reported. He pledged that Israel would respond with a force beyond Hezbollah's imagination, with potentially devastating consequences for both the group and the state of Lebanon.
On Sunday, Israel's defense ministry issued evacuation orders for an additional 14 communities along the border, adding to the dozens already evacuated.
For the uninitiated, Hezbollah is aligned with Hamas militants, which triggered the recent violence with an attack on October 7, leading to the deaths of at least 1,400 people in Israel, according to Israeli authorities.
