Suspected Robber Behind Wrong-Way Crash, That Claimed Lives Of 3 Indian Family Members, Also From India
A robber while being chased by police crashed his truck into another vehicle, causing the deaths of three members of an Indian family. Now, it has been revealed that he was also of Indian origin.
A suspected robber, pursued by Ontario Police, collided his truck with another vehicle, resulting in the deaths of an Indian family in Canada on April 29. The 21-year-old-burglary suspect, it has now been revealed, was also of Indian origin, news agency PTI reported citing local media reports.
The collision occurred on a Canadian Highway, claiming the lives of Manivannan Srinivasapillai, 60, Mahalaskhgmi Ananthakrishnan, 55, from Chennai, and their three-month-old grandson, Aditya Vivaan. The young boy’s parents, Gokulnath Manivannan and Ashwitha Jawahar survived the devastating crash.
Here’s What Happened Exactly
The U-Haul truck, pursued by law enforcement, was being driven by Gagandeep Singh, as reported by The Toronto newspaper. Singh, 21, was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
As per the report, accompanying Singh in the truck was another person of Indian origin, Manpreet Gill, 38, who sustained severe injuries and is currently hospitalised. Gill has not faced charges related to the crash, as mentioned ib in the report.
An order issued by a Hamilton justice of the peace detailed Singh’s prior charges, stipulating conditions for his release, including a bond of $2,000 and restrictions on certain locations. Singh was slated to appear in Court again on May 14.
According to media reports, debates regarding the efficacy of the bail system have arisen following the incident. While some, such as Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative party, argue for reforms, others contend that Singh’s previous releases were appropriate given the available information.

Baby Aditya’s Funeral
On Wednesday, mourners gathered for the funeral of the infant victim, Aditya Vivaan, whose death has left a void in the hearts of his family. In a statement, his father expresses his profound grief over the loss. “We are at a complete loss of words to describe the agony and vacuum in our hearts knowing we can never hold our child Aditya Vivaan, who gave us so many precious memories in such a short time, in our hands again,” he said.
“His small toys and clothes remain spread around our home, and we have no courage in us to even enter our home which is filled with our only son’s memories,” Gokulnath said.
As per the PTI report, the grandparents were laid to rest on Monday, preceding Aditya’s funeral at the Chapel Ridge Funeral Home in Markham.
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is conducting an inquiry into the crash.
