Brazil Football Legend Pele Moved To Palliative Care Amid Battle With Cancer: Report

He was sent to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Tuesday with 'general edoema' and 'heart failure.'

According to a medical update, the three-time World Cup winner was still in a "stable" condition on Thursday, and his daughter Kely assured there was "no cause for alarm."

Pele is no longer responding to the chemotherapy that he has been undergoing since last September to treat his colon cancer, according to a story in Folha de Sao Paulo.

According to his doctors, he is presently receiving palliative care and won't be exposed to invasive tests or treatment. Patients who have potentially fatal illnesses or conditions receive both end-of-life care and palliative care.

Pele was identified as having a "respiratory infection," which was being treated with medicine, according to a statement from the Albert Einstein Medical Center on Friday.

In the upcoming days, the former football player is expected to stay in the hospital for additional care.
