After Imran Khan, His PTI Deputy Shah Mahmood Qureshi Arrested In Islamabad: Report

The PTI leader has been arrested from Islamabad's Red Zone area.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested in Islamabad on Wednesday from the Red Zone area. This follows the recent apprehension of PTI Secretary General Asad Umar and the subsequent protests by PTI workers, according to Geo News. Umar was arrested by the anti-terrorist squad from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Qureshi has been placed under custody for 15 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, as reported by Geo News. Both Qureshi and Umar have been taken to Secretariat Police Station in Islamabad. Authorities are also attempting to arrest PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry.

Fawad Chaudhry, another PTI leader, has alleged that the Islamabad police are seeking to arrest him, as they have gathered outside the Supreme Court building. He shared on Twitter that the Islamabad High Court issued a decision yesterday prohibiting his arrest in any case until May 12.

An accountability court has granted the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) an eight-day remand of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Khan was arrested the previous day from the IHC premises in relation to the Al-Qadir Trust case. Additionally, Khan has been indicted in the Toshakhana case by a sessions court. Both hearings took place at the Islamabad Police Lines.

As political unrest simmers in the wake of Imran Khan's arrest, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Islamabad have called in the army to restore the law and order situation. Sindh has also imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order.
