Ambassador Mohammad Zahir Aghbar said at a press conference on Wednesday that 'Ghani stole $169 million from the state coffers' and called Ghani's departure 'a betrayal of the state and the nation'. On the other hand, Ashraf Ghani held a press conference to explain the reason for leaving Afghanistan and said that he had left the country under compulsion.

Ghani also said that the allegations being levelled against him are completely baseless. I did not run away from Afghanistan with money, he said. He further said that cross-checking can be done from the customs department of the United Arab Emirates. I didn't even have enough time to change my shoes, Ghani said. I was asked to leave immediately by my security forces. He also said that if he had lived in Kabul, there would have been a massacre. He said that he has left Afghanistan because of security reasons.
