3 Killed In Turkish Drone Attack On PKK Militants In Northern Iraq

The three people were in their vehicle driving on Penjwen Sulaimaniya main road when they were hit by the drone.

A Turkish drone strike in northern Iraq on Friday killed three members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), Iraqi Kurdish officials said. The latest drone attack was the fifth this week in northern Iraq against Kurdish militants, as per the news agency Reuters. The three people were in their vehicle driving on Penjwen Sulaimaniya main road when they were hit by the drone, Reuters reported, citing Kurdish security sources.

In Friday's drone attack, "a drone of the Turkish army targeted a PKK vehicle near Nalparez," a village in Sulimaniyah province on the road to the Iranian border, the Kurdish region's counterterrorism department said in a statement, as quoted by the news agency AFP. "A senior PKK official, a fighter, and a driver were killed."

Earlier on Thursday, the Turkish Defence Ministry announced that at least six soldiers were killed in clashes with the PKK in northern Iraq, AFP reported. Statements condemning the violation of Iraqi sovereignty are periodically issued, particularly when there are civilian casualties.

Last month, the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's forthcoming visit to Iraq.
