'Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay Has Responsibility Here': CM Mamata Post Cyclone Yass Review Meet

TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee earlier today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the Centre's order recalling state chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday afternoon chaired a review meeting on Cyclone Yass and said that Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay has a responsibility here in storm affected areas in the state. 

"I've visited Cyclone Yaas affected Digha region, Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay has a responsibility here. Fishermen's compensation needs to be thought of," the Chief Minister said, as rfeported by ANI.

"Poor people should remember I am there for you all. Don't participate in provocation," West Bengal CM said during the minister. 

Further in her address, the chief minister elaborated on the Covid situation in the state. "The daily number of COVID cases has gone down to 11,000. The daily positivity rate decreased to 18 -19%. The death rate is 0.56 %, which is lesser than first wave, and discharge rate stand at 91%," CM Mamata said. 

The TMC Supremo earlier today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the Centre's order recalling state chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay. In a letter to the PM, Mamata urged him to reconsider the  decision to recall the chief secretary, and said that her government "is not releasing" the top bureaucrat.

Bandyopadhyay, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, was scheduled to retire on Monday after completion of 60 years of age. However, he was granted a three-month extension following a nod from the Centre to work on COVID management.
