WATCH | Unacademy CEO, His Family And Pet Rescued On Tractor In Flooded Bengaluru

Sunday was recorded as the wettest day in the last eight years in Bengaluru as the IT city of the country received 90 milimetres of rainfall.

Bengaluru has been lashed with heavy rains for the past few days bringing the city to a standstill with long traffic snarls, power cuts, and heavy flooding on the streets. People are being rescued from flooded neighbourhoods as roads remained waterlogged. Sunday was recorded as the wettest day in the last eight years in Bengaluru as the IT city of the country received 90 milimetres of rainfall, sources had told ABP News.

Amid heavy rainfall and waterlogging in the city, Gaurav Munjal, the CEO and co-founder of Unacademy, posted a video showing his family and dog being rescued on a tractor from their neighbourhood.

The edtech business, Unacademy's founder, Munjal, had to utilise a tractor to save his family and pet from submerged society.

Munjal posted the video of his animal companion Albus riding in a tractor and captioned it, "Family and my Pet Albus has been evacuated on a tractor from our society that's now inundated. Everything is horrible. Please be cautious. If you need any assistance, DM me, and I'll do my best to assist."

Another CEO, Meena Girisaballa, founder of Purple Front Technologies, appealed to the government for assistance in rescuing citizens who were trapped in their flooded neighbourhood in Bengaluru's Yemalur.

While tweeting a video, she said “I am Meena Girisaballa. We live in Vilas, which is a 77 east community and is the most flooded because all the water from the nala (drain) has been now going into the community and we don’t have much help in terms of tractors and evacuation because the truck is not allowed inside by the BBMP guys.”

She continued to say “We are taking our private tractors paying a lot of money and taking them inside to evacuate all the families, elderly people, people with pets. Everybody is stranded inside. Our houses are flooded. The whole ground floor is flooded. It’s a three floor house. The ground floor is flooded till my knees and it is in a very bad state. The last three roads, you cannot go by tractors, we need a boat, we don’t even have a boat, so that’s another issue that we have right now. So we need all your help.”

The worst-affected areas by the monsoon rains were gated communities and upscale apartment buildings in areas such as Divyasree 77 Place, Epsilon Residential Villas, and Rohan Jharoka. Residents while talking to The News Minute said that they had lost access to electricity and drinking water, and that vehicles stored in their basements were floating as the water level increased. They also claimed that neither any official from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) or Karnataka government visited the flooded districts to learn about rescue attempts.
