Tokyo Olympics 2021: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin Announces Rs 3 Cr Prize Money For Gold Medal Winners

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday announced that his government will reward sportspersons who bag medals in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games 2021.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on today announced that his government will reward sportspersons who win medals in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.

Stalin announced the prize money of Rs 3 crore for gold winning athletes, Rs 2 crore for silver winners, and Rs 1 crore for bronze winners in the Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Sportspersons taking part in Tokyo Olympics 2021 were vaccinated and motivated in an event held at the Chennai Nehru Indoor Stadium. Chief Minister MK Stalin, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister V Meyyanathan, Health Minister Ma Subramanian, MLAs Udayanithi Stalin and I. Paranthamen were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, MK Stalin said that each of the athletes has individual talent; we can only win the game with the team spirit. CM said that we plan to treat government sports sector as a superior sector in the state. He said, athletes bring to pride to the nation.

He also added that it’s important to identify the talents in children at an early stage and train them at the international level and help them become the best athletes, saying that a grand sports city would be set up in Chennai to train all types of sports.

He Further said, by encouraging the Olympic Academy, it’s possible to bring Tamil Nadu to the top Indian rankings and India to the world rankings by leaving behind the countries like China and other Asian nations in sports. 

Speaking on vaccination camps set up at various locations, the Chief Minister requested that all the athletes should make use of these camps and get themselves vaccinated.  Vaccination camps were also set up for differently abled athletes at fixed locations in Tamil Nadu.

It is noteworthy that Gagan Narang, a Chennai native who represented India in shooting and won a bronze in the 2012 London Olympics in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event, is still the only individual medallist from the state.
