National Herald Case: ED Issues Fresh Summons To Sonia Gandhi For Appearance In Late July

Sonia Gandhi was found infected with the Coronavirus on June 2 and was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on 12 June due to complications post-COVID-19.

New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again summoned Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the money-laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper on Thursday and asked the leader to join the investigation in late July, officials said on Thursday as reported by news agency PTI. On Wednesday, Sonia wrote a letter to the probe agency citing her illness and requested to postpone the inquiry, which was also accepted by ED. Sonia was found infected with the Coronavirus on June 2 and was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on 12 June due to complications post-COVID-19.

Sonia was earlier scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on June 8, but in view of her Covid-19 infection, she sought time from the investigating agency. After this, the agency issued a fresh summon and asked her to appear for questioning on June 23.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "Since she has been strictly advised rest at home following her hospitalisation on account of Covid and lung infection, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has written to ED today seeking the postponement of her appearance there by a few weeks till she has recovered completely." 

Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi is being questioned by the ED i.e. Enforcement Directorate in the National Herald case. ED has questioned Rahul Gandhi for 51 hours for 5 days in the National Herald case. Protests were held at many places by Congress workers against the ED's questioning of Rahul Gandhi.
