Rajya Sabha Election | 'Resort Politics' Is Back As Congress Set To Send Haryana MLAs To Chhattisgarh: Report

Rajya Sabha Election: It is being said that this step has been taken against the backdrop of disgruntled leaders after the party fielded outsiders in the Rajya Sabha elections.

New Delhi: Keeping in mind the possibility of horse-trading during voting for the Rajya Sabha elections on June 10, the Congress appears to be back to 'resort politics'. The Congress party will take its Haryana MLAs to Chhattisgarh, where arrangements will be made for their stay at a resort, news agency ANI reported, quoting sources. Chhattisgarh has a Congress government and Bhupesh Baghel is the state's chief minister.

However, it has not been decided as to when the MLAs will be taken there. Quoting the sources, ANI reported that the Congress could shift the MLAs to Chhattisgarh "in a day or two".

“It has not been decided when they will be taken there, but in a day or two it will be done,” the sources said.

It is being said that this step has been taken in the backdrop of dissent among leaders after the party fielded outsiders in the Rajya Sabha elections. AICC general secretary Ajay Maken has been fielded from Haryana. After the announcement of Maken's name, senior Haryana Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi is said to be upset about the party's decisions. Another problem for the party is the candidature of Kartikeya Sharma, the report said.

Karthikeya Sharma's father-in-law is a former Congress leader and is considered to have a significant influence on state politics. The Congress party fears the MLAs could be lured by other parties to derail their plans.

During the Goa elections in 2017 and the Madhya Pradesh elections in 2018, the Congress party had adopted the strategy wherein they took the MLAs to a resort and made them camp there for days.
