New Union Cabinet Meeting Underway At PM Modi's Residence In Delhi

With the upcoming Monsoon session of the parliament, the Union Cabinet decided to meet in person after almost a year since April last year when the pandemic started

New Delhi: After the grand expansion of the Cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds first high level meeting with the new Union Cabinet today, July 14. In the meeting being held at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, PM will address ministers in person after almost a year since April last year when the pandemic started.

PM Modi is gearing up for the session with his new team of cabinet ministers. The Union Cabinet has been meeting regularly since the outbreak through video conferencing. With the upcoming Monsoon session of the parliament, the Union Cabinet decided to meet in person. As per the news agency PTI, the Monsoon session will begin from July 19.

The session will run for 13 days which will see the functioning of the house as per the pre-coronavirus timings from 11am to 6pm.

The Prime Minister is expected to chair a meeting of the Council of Ministers at 4pm on Wednesday through video conferencing. This will mark the second meeting of the Council of Ministers after the recent reshuffle. The first meeting one was held on July 8 soon after its expansion a day before.

Prime Minister’s new cabinet has now 36 fresh faces including the youngest cabinet of India. While the reshuffle surprised many, the most shocking events were the resignations by the 12 cabinet ministers on Wednesday before the new list of ministers was released.

Union ministers Smriti Irani, Bhupender Yadav and Sarbananda Sonowal has joined as the new members of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs headed by the Prime Minister. Former Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Harsh Vardhan are no longer a part of it.

Meanwhile, what was noteworthy was the fact that some stalwart Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders managed to hold on to their positions amid the resignation binge which usually does not take takes place in the run-up to a Cabinet reshuffle.

While other ministers to be included in the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs include Arjun Munda, Virendra Kumar, Kiren Rijiju and Anurag Thakur.
