'Nabanna Cholo March': Kolkata Police Detain BJP Leaders Suvendu Adhikari, Rahul Sinha Ahead Of Rally To State Secretariat

Ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) 'Nabanna Cholo March', a rally in protest against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, the police detained some BJP leaders.

Ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) 'Nabanna Cholo March', a rally in protest against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, the Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, along with the President of the West Bengal BJP, Rahul Sinha, and a Member of the Parliament (MP), were detained by the police on Tuesday. The MP is Locket Chatterjee from Hastings, Kolkata. The leaders, who were marching to the State Secretariat as part of the rally, have been taken to the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar, news agency ANI reported.

In a video shared on Twitter, Sinha, Adhikari, and Chatterjee are seen being apprehended by the Police. After entering the police van, Sinha started saying 'Vande Mataram'.

In a video tweeted by ABP News, the police can be seen shooting streams of water using water cannons on the protestors against the ruling TMC government.

A conflict is going on between the West Bengal BJP and the ruling TMC government due to the latter's alleged corrupt practices.

Earlier in the day, the BJP alleged that the West Bengal Police were preventing party activists and leaders from marching to the State Secretariat.

On Tuesday morning, BJP supporters from all across West Bengal arrived in Kolkata and the neighbouring city Howrah to participate in the Nabanna Cholo March.

Security has been increased to prevent the BJP leaders and supporters from reaching the State Secretariat. Despite this, a fight erupted between BJP members and the police outside the Raniganj railway station on Tuesday morning, ANI reported. The BNP workers were headed for Kolkata to take part in the Nabanna Cholo rally.

According to reports, Abhijit Dutta, a BJP leader, said the police had stopped 20 party members close to the Durgapur train station. The police have said that the demonstration is unlawful, because of which they cannot let it happen.
