Mohali Blast: Punjab Police Recovers Launcher Used In Attack, Rounds Up Number Of Suspects

Khalistani outfit Sikh for Justice (SFJ) warned Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur that the attack could also hit the Shimla Police Headquarters.

New Delhi: In the latest development on the Mohali police intelligence headquarters blast, a number of suspects have been rounded up and questioned by Punjab police. The launcher used in the attack has also been recovered by the police and all leads developed in the case are being pursued meticulously, said police. A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the Intelligence Wing headquarters of the Punjab Police in Mohali on Monday. Although there was no loss of life or property in this attack, a question mark was raised on the security system of Punjab.

A day after a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the Intelligence Wing headquarters of Punjab Police in Mohali, Khalistani outfit Sikh for Justice (SFJ) warned Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur that the attack could also hit the Shimla Police Headquarters.

"This grenade attack could have taken place at the Shimla Police headquarters," SFJ's self-styled general counsel Gurpatwant Singh Pannun warned in an audio message.

In a statement following the incident, the Mohali Police said, “A minor explosion was reported at the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in sector 77, SAS Nagar at around 7.45 PM. No damage has been reported. Senior officers are on the spot and an investigation is being done. Forensic teams have been called.”

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken complete information about the matter from the DGP. Bhagwant Mann tweeted in Hindi saying that the Punjab Police is investigating the explosion in Mohali. Anybody who tries to spoil the atmosphere in Punjab will not be spared.

The explosion took place around 7.45 pm at the office located in sector 77 in Mohali following which an alert was sounded. The Mohali police said that no damage was reported after the blast and senior officers reached on spot to investigate the matter. Forensic teams were also called immediately after the blast.
