Mariam Mammen Mathew Appointed Chairperson Of DNPA, Puneet Gupt New Vice-Chairman

Mariam Mammen Mathew succeeds Tanmay Maheshwari as the chairperson of DNPA (Digital News Publishers’ Association) for a tenure of two years.

Mariam Mammen Mathew, the CEO of Manorama Online, has been appointed as the chairperson of DNPA (Digital News Publishers’ Association) for a tenure of two years starting from April 1, 2024. She succeeds Tanmay Maheshwari, the Managing Director of Amar Ujala. Mariam previously served as the vice-chairperson under Maheshwari's leadership. 

Expressing her gratitude, Mariam stated, "I am honoured to take on the role as chairperson of DNPA and contribute to the country’s digital media landscape. My main goal will be to amplify the scale, influence, and durability of digital news media entities." She emphasised the importance of embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive transformative change and reiterated her commitment to fostering a culture of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity within the organisation.

Puneet Gupt Appointed DNPA's New Vice-Chairman

Puneet Gupt, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Times Internet, has been appointed as the new vice-chairman of DNPA, while Puneet Jain, the CEO of Digital HT Media, continues in his role as the treasurer.

DNPA, serving as an umbrella organisation for the digital arms of media companies, has been proactive in ensuring equality and fairness for all news publishers. It represents 18 prominent media organisations, including Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, The Indian Express, and others.

Reflecting on his tenure, outgoing chairman Tanmay Maheshwari said, "Having served as DNPA chairman for two stimulating years, I was pleased to contribute to the endeavour of democratising India's digital news landscape. I am confident that Mariam Mathew will bring valuable insights to our shared mission."

Under Maheshwari's leadership, DNPA organised several editions of the DNPA Dialogues and Conclave & Awards, making significant contributions to India’s digital news media landscape. The association is dedicated to promoting, supporting, and protecting the growth of digital news publishers, fostering friendly relations among its members, and ensuring credibility while protecting them from unfair practices.

Sujata Gupta, the Secretary-General of DNPA, highlighted the organisation's efforts in safeguarding the interests of India’s digital news media houses and seeking greater collaboration between Big Tech platforms and digital news media organisations.

DNPA's initiatives come at a time when India’s regulators, led by the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, are striving to bring fairness to the operations of Big Tech platforms in the country.
