Kerala: 10-Year-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted At Kasaragod Hospital

The man approached the girl when her mother was away to buy medicine.

A 10-year-old girl was subjected to sexual assault in a hospital near Kumbla in northern Kerala last week, as said by the police. The incident occurred on November 18 when the girl had accompanied her mother to the hospital. When the girl was alone since her mother went away to buy medicine, the man approached her. He offered to show the girl the lift.

Upon the mother's return, she found that her daughter was missing and later found the child near the lift after searching for her, as reported by IANS.

Following the child's account of the incident, the police registered a complaint. The Kumbla police have registered a case under section 354 of the IPC (outraging modesty of a woman) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. While CCTV footage has been obtained from the hospital, the identity of the perpetrator remains unknown.

The safety of woman in public places is also under question mark. During the rush early hours, a man reportedly groped a young woman in a moving Namma Metro train in Bengaluru. The woman's distressing experience was shared by her friend on the social news platform Reddit, where the post quickly gained traction and went viral on various social media platforms.

Using the username "proteincarbs," the friend detailed that the victim, who typically relied on the bus for her college commute, opted for the Metro on November 20.

He said, "Around 8:50 a.m. at Majestic, the Metro was extremely overcrowded, much more than usual, with a lot of pushing and shoving. Even the woman responsible for managing passenger flow let an unusually large number of people into the train at once."

"After a while, my friend began to feel very uncomfortable. She soon realized that a man in a red shirt, standing right behind her, was touching and grabbing her from the back. She could literally feel his hands," he stated, as quoted by IANS.

He narrated that at first his friend was oblivious to what was unfolding but the instant she turned around the man hastily sprinted away. Despite her desperate screams and tears for help, it seemed like nobody cared, he had said.

He went on to express that the victim is now grappling with trauma, and he feels utterly powerless to assist her.

Officials from the Bengaluru Metro Corporation Limited (BMRCL) assert that as of now, they have not received any formal complaint regarding the incident that transpired on November 20. They emphasize that prompt action will be taken if a complaint is filed, and they will thoroughly examine the CCTV footage in order to investigate the matter.
