J&K: Amid Spurt In Attacks, 26 Foreign Terrorists Killed Since January, Say Police

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on Thursday in Jumagund village of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

New Delhi: A total of 26 foreign terrorists have been killed in separate shelling with security forces in Kashmir so far this year. These include three terrorists of Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who were killed in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Thursday. Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar, quoting Jammu and Kashmir Police, tweeted, "From the incriminating materials recovered, the 03 killed terrorists have been identified as Pakistani, affiliated with terror outfit LeT. So far, 26 foreign terrorists (14 JeM & 12 LeT) have been neutralised this year." 

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces on Thursday in Jumagund village of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

The police said that they had a specific input which was later developed by the Kupwara police regarding an infiltration attempt by terrorists in Jumagund village. Based on this input an encounter started.

As the security forces reached the spot where the terrorists were hiding, there was a heavy exchange of fire from the terrorists, triggering an encounter.

Target killing has increased once again in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiri Pandits are protesting demanding security from the administration of this union territory. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed that security forces have killed 83 terrorists in 50 encounters so far in 2022.

According to a senior police officer, since January, security forces have intensified the operation against the terrorists. Security forces are acting on the basis of credible reports of the presence of militants. The help of technical and human intelligence is being taken in anti-terrorist operations. He told that so far 115 people have been killed this year i.e. 2022, including 16 civilians and 16 security forces personnel. The rest 83 killed were terrorists. Apart from this, more than 40 hybrid terrorists have also been arrested.
