International Yoga Day 2021 LIVE Updates: International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 each year to highlight the importance of Yoga in rejuvenating our body, mind and soul. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 7th Yoga Day programme at around 6.30am.
The theme of this year's Yoga Day is Yoga for wellness, which focuses on practising Yoga for both physical and mental well being, and how the practice of yoga can promote the holistic health of every individual.
Due to restrictions on congregations amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the main event of the day will be a televised programme, which will include an address by the minister of state for Ayush - Kiren Rijiju, and a live Yoga demonstration by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
The event is scheduled to start at 6:30 am and will be tevevised on all Doordarshan channels.
The UN General Assembly in 2014 overwhelmingly adopted a draft resolution, declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day. A record 177 countries supported the resolution. Since then, Yoga Day is celebrated across World every year on June 21.
