Now Home-Delivery Of Alcohol In Odisha Too! Zomato To Begin Door-Step Supply Of Liquor, Apart From Grocery & Food

Odisha allows Zomato to begin home delivery of alcohol. Only those users who are within the legal drinking age will be able to place an order.

New Delhi: Zomato announced that it will start doorstep alcohol delivery in the eastern state, Odisha. They will first start with Bhubaneswar and will soon expand to other cities like Rourkela, Balasore, Balangir, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Cuttack. In an IANS report, Rakesh Ranjan the Vice President at Zomato made a statement, "We're happy to be of service to our users in Odisha who can now use Zomato to get alcohol delivered in addition to grocery and food delivery," "We are working very closely with excise departments to ensure end-to-end compliance to the safety guidelines and are also introducing consumption and identity verification protocols to promote responsible ordering and consumption," Ranjan said. Orders can be made between 9 am and 6 pm and the app will only feature licensed retailers who have applied for Zomato’s service. Only those users who are within the legal drinking age will be able to place an order. At the time of delivery an ID card will have to be shown as proof of age. According to reports, users will be required to upload valid ID proof to be eligible for ordering. This will be verified by the delivery partner at the time of handing over the order. Odisha is the second state to adopt this method after Jharkhand allowed Swiggy and Zomato to deliver alcohol last week. This measure is taken to decrease the number of people standing at the shops when the lockdown on liquor shops was lifted there were huge crowds in front of the shops and people refused to follow social distancing norms
