YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy stabbed at Vizag Airport, attacker held

The Election Commission (EC) had on October 6 announced the election schedule for five states, including Telangana, which would go to the polls on December 7. The Telangana Assembly was dissolved on September 6.

Vizag (Andhra Pradesh): In a shocking news, YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy was allegedly stabbed on his arm by an unidentified assailant at Visakhapatnam Airport today. The sharp-edged metal object used as a weapon to attack Reddy was seized by the police. Reddy was seen in visuals standing along police officials at the airport with a bleeding arm. The attacker was also apprehended by the police and was taken for interrogation.  Certain media reports say the man attacked Reddy while requesting him for a selfie. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi issued a strong condemnation on Twitter over the 'cowardly' attack on Reddy. He said this is a major security lapse which must be probed by  Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu. Owaisi questioned how can a person bring a dagger inside the airport and in the lounge. The Hyderabad MP said politicians are vulnerable with this "new phenomenon of selfies" with supporters and well-wishers. Reddy, the leader of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh assembly, received a minor injury on his shoulder and is doing fine, official sources told news agency PTI. Initial report said the assailant was employed at the airport canteen, but no official confirmation was immediately available. He was recently on a marathon foot march in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh covering over 3000 km.
