If Everyone Is Saying The Same Thing, It Can't Be A Lie: Vinesh Phogat On Charges Against WFI Chief
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat spoke about the accusations made against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and on claims that the report submission was delayed because of the grapplers' last-minute request.
New Delhi: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Sunday thanked all the people and sportspersons for supporting the protest against the Wrestling Federation of India. Phogat while talking to the media said that they don't have to prove that they're telling the truth and if everyone is saying the same thing then it can't be a lie.
Phogat, while talking to the news agency ANI at Sports Conclave in Kolkata, said, "If everybody is speaking the same thing then it can't be a lie. Nobody can prove it if anybody can prove it then do it in front of us. We don't have to prove that we are telling the truth. If you haven't done anything wrong then prove it. We are waiting for you."
She added that when sportspersons come together and share their feelings and thoughts they get courage. ANI quoted Phogat as saying, "Even I get it when I meet everyone. Everybody is giving us best wishes and they are with us which gives us power as an athlete this gives us the motivation that athletes are with us. We get strength in our fight of truth or lie that we will definitely win."
The wrestling authorities in India were reportedly not pleased with the behaviour of the top wrestlers and claimed that the report submission was delayed because of the grapplers' last-minute request to add a member of their choice to the Oversight Committee formed to investigate allegations against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
On this issue, Phogat said, "If the report arrived late then how are we responsible? Whenever the committee called us we went there. We were given a date and we went there. never denied that we won't go there."
The wrestlers accused WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual misconduct and intimidation. To oversee WFI activities, the government formed a five-member oversight panel. The oversight group, which was established to look into the accusations made against the WFI, its chief Singh, and other coaches, is being chaired by boxer Mary Kom.
