World Biofuel Day: PM Modi To Dedicate Rs 900 Crore 2G Ethanol Plant In Panipat To Nation Today

On World Biofuel Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 2nd generation (2G) Ethanol Plant in Panipat, Haryana to the country through video conference today at 4:30 pm. According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the plant's development is part of a lengthy sequence of efforts made by the government over the years to increase the production and use of biofuels in the country.

“This is in line with the Prime Minister’s constant endeavour to transform the energy sector into being more affordable, accessible, efficient and sustainable,” reads the official statement.

Based on cutting-edge indigenous technology, the initiative will open a new chapter in India's waste-to-wealth efforts by utilising around 2 lakh tonnes of rice straw (parali) yearly to create approximately 3 crore litres of Ethanol.

Developing a use for agri-crop residue would empower farmers and give them an extra source of revenue.

People participating in the plant operation will be directly employed by the project, and indirect employment will be produced in the supply chain for rice straw cutting, handling, storage, and so on.

There will be no liquid discharge from the project. The project will contribute to a decrease in Greenhouse Gases equivalent to around 3 lakh tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent emissions each year, which may be viewed as similar to replacing nearly 63,000 automobiles on the country's roads each year.
