MP: Home Minister Narottam Mishra To Take Part In Human Trials Of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin

As the third phase of trials of the vaccine is underway, at People’s Medical College in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, reports have surfaced, that suggest a shortage of volunteers for the trials.

Covid-19 Vaccine News: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra, on Thursday, while talking to the media expressed his willingness to volunteer for the third phase of the clinical human-trials of the coronavirus vaccine, which is being developed by Bharat Biotech. I will talk to the doctors today. If people like us come forward, other people will also be motivated,” Mishra told the media. As the third phase of trials of the vaccine is underway, at People’s Medical College in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Reports have surfaced, that suggest a shortage of volunteers for the trials. In India, there are four different vaccines, that are doing rounds in different phases of human trials. Out of the four, two are indigenously developed which include Covaxin, which is being developed by Bharat Biotech and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and ZyCovD by Zydus Cadila. Internationally developed vaccines that are running the human trials in India include, Covishield developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, Serum Institute of India (SII) Pune, which is tasked with the manufacture of the vaccine. Russian Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V is the fourth vaccine, that is running rounds of clinical trials in India, in partnership with Hyderabad based Dr Reddy’s Lab. Meanwhile, American drug giant, Pfizer covid-19 vaccine, which showed an efficacy of 95 per cent, got emergency approval from the United Kingdom (UK) on Wednesday. The UK plans to start the vaccination drive of the m-RNA based vaccine next week. The country in the last 24-hours reported 36,604 cases and 526 deaths. With the recovery rate of the country soaring at 94.11 per cent, 40,726 people recovered from the disease. The total number of active cases in the country stands at 4,22,943.
