West Bengal Elections 2021: Ahead of the Bengal Assembly Election, the political environment has been a tense one for quite some time as BJP and ruling TMC launch attacks at each other for gaining support. Both parties are making grand poll promises to woo voters.

Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to ABP News as he attacked the CM Mamata Banerjee-led government. He said that this time in Bengal, there will be “no khela, no tamasha, only Vikas”.

“Direct President’s Rule Can’t Be Imposed”

Rajnath Singh said: "Under both Left and the Trinamool Congress, Bengal continued to fall behind. The law and order situation has worsened”. He said that the responsibility of law in the state is that of the state government. Due to the Federal system, direct President’s rule cannot be imposed".

"I do not want to comment on Mamata Banerjee personally, but as CM, she has not lived up to the aspirations she had set for Bengal. The promises made were not fulfilled. The condition of Bengal has been very bad. The people of Bengal are looking towards the BJP with hope," he added.

“BJP Will Hit Sixes Like Sourav Ganguly”

"We are ready to hit Sixers in the electoral ground this time. When Saurabh Ganguly used to get out of the crease, everyone used to say that he is going to hit sixes. Similarly, BJP is preparing to hit Sixer in Bengal this time. BJP will win more than 200 seats in the assembly," Rajnath Singh said as he reiterated his poll pitch.

Talking about Saurabh Ganguly's decision to not join BJP, Rajnath Singh termed it as a personal decision. He also rejected the results of the opinion polls conducted for the assembly elections. The Defence Minister said: “I do not accept this trend as correct. I think we will form the government".

On the Nandigram incident, Rajnath ruled out having sympathy for CM Mamata saying: "There is no question of sympathy for Mamata Banerjee. She is responsible for the injury. It is clear that there is frustration and disappointment somewhere, due to which she is playing the sympathy card".
