Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Meets BJP MP Ananta Maharaj In Cooch Behar Sparking Speculation
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's meeting with BJP MP Ananta Maharaj in Cooch Behar raised eyebrows, coming shortly after TMC's victory in the Cooch Behar Lok Sabha seat over BJP's Nisith Pramanik.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ananta Maharaj, also known as Nagen Roy, at his residence in Cooch Behar on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting, seen as politically significant, lasted for around 35 minutes. Upon her arrival at the Chakchaka Palace, Nagen Roy welcomed CM Mamata Banerjee with a traditional scarf and 'guwa paan' (betel leaf).
Before visiting Roy’s residence, the West Bengal Chief Minister offered prayers at the Madan Mohan temple in the district headquarters town, news agency PTI reported.

Banerjee’s visit to Cooch Behar follows her trip to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri, where she met with victims of the Kanchanjunga Express tragedy. She arrived in Cooch Behar on Monday evening.
While the state BJP has yet to respond to this development. Roy was cryptic about the implications of the meeting. "Let's see what happens in future," he told reporters afterwards, as quoted by PTI.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) recently secured a significant victory in Cooch Behar, wresting the Lok Sabha seat from the BJP. TMC defeated the incumbent BJP MP, Nisith Pramanik, by nearly 40,000 votes. This election result has sparked speculation about potential new political alignments, given Roy's influence over a substantial section of the Rajbongshi community in the region.
