Highest-Ever Temperature In Rajasthan, Red Alert For Kerala, 'Orange' Warning For Delhi — Weather Updates

The IMD has issued an 'orange' warning for Delhi-NCR on May 25-27. The maximum temperatures in the national capital had soared to about 45 degrees Celsius earlier this week.

Amid the ongoing heatwave in the country, the mercury in Rajasthan touched a new height on Thursday leading to five deaths due to heatwave.

The temperature soared to 48.8 degrees Celsius in Barmer, the highest-ever recorded this summer, according to Met Centre Jaipur.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Delhi dipped slightly today but remained around a notch above the normal for this time of the year. A severe cyclonic storm named 'Remal' is also expected to reach West Bengal by Sunday evening.

Here are the weather updates from across the country:

  •  The record temperature in Rajasthan's Barmer was followed by Phalodi with maximum temperature at 48.6 degrees degrees, Fatehpur at 47.6 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer at 47.5 degrees Celsius, Jodhpur at 47.4 degrees Celsius, Jalore at 47.3 degrees Celsius, Kota at 47.2 degrees Celsius and Churu at 47 degrees Celsius.
  • The IMD has issued an 'orange' warning for Delhi-NCR on May 25-27. The maximum temperatures in the national capital had soared to about 45 degrees Celsius, placing it under 'red' or 'orange' warnings due to expected heat waves in previous days.
  • For Friday, the IMD has predicted mainly clear skies with surface winds reaching speeds of 20 to 30 kilometres per hour during the day in the national capital. It has also predicted a warm night at isolated places.
  • The India Meteorological Department revised the rain alerts in Kerala and issued a red alert in two districts in the state. A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rain of over 20 cm in 24 hours.
  • Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Kerala, leading to waterlogging in the low-lying areas of major cities, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Thrissur. The IMD issued a red alert in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.
  • The IMD on Thursday forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in parts of Andhra Pradesh between May 23 and 27. Rainfall is likely in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
  • The weather agency also said that a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will intensify and reach Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening. This is the first cyclone in the Bay of Bengal this pre-monsoon season and will be named Remal.
