WB Election 2021: Following EC's Order, CM Mamata Banerjee To Hold Virtual Meetings Canceling All Poll Rallies

Several hours prior to her announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he would be will be chairing high-level meetings to review the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.

Kolkata: With rapidly rising Covid cases in the state, chief minister Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday announced cancellation of all her prescheduled meetings. She has decided to hold all her meetings virtually. 

Mamata Banerjee’s tweet read, ”In the wake of upsurge in Covid 19 cases across the country and the ECI Order dated 22nd April, 2021, I am cancelling all my prescheduled meetings and we will reach out to the people virtually. “We will be sharing the updated schedule of the virtual meetings shortly.”

Several hours prior to her announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he would be will be chairing high-level meetings to review the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.

Due to which he would not be visiting West Bengal, thus calling off his campaign on April 23. His tweet read, ”Tomorrow, will be chairing high-level meetings to review the prevailing Covid-19 situation. Due to that, I would not be going to West Bengal.”

The BJP later clarified that Narendra Modi will be addressing the voters of West Bengal, especially those in the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Kolkata, through a virtual meet at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 23.

The political parties have been facing constant criticism from the public for holding continuous meetings and rallies across Bengal, even during the spike of the second wave of the pandemic. However, it is still not clear from the BJP’s side if they have planned to call off all the rallies from their party’s side in the future.
