New Delhi: The government is making all efforts to evacuate Indian nationals from conflict-hit Ukraine and its borders. Until yesterday, more than 3,000 Indians were rescue and brought back home, confirmed government authorities. 

According to Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, no more Indians were left in the Ukraine capital Kyiv. But an Indian doctor Rajkumar Santalani has claimed to be stuck in Kyiv along with is family, reported news agency IANS.

Rajkumar, a resident of Jaipur is stranded in Kyiv along with his wife Dr Mayuri Mohan Andhare and their two children.

“We were very sad when we came to know that it was being said in New Delhi that all Indians have been evacuated from Kyiv. We have been in contact with the Embassy for the last six days… The embassy kept telling us to wait,” Dr Santalani was quoted, as saying by IANS.

He further added, “There have been bomb blasts for four days. There was peace for the last two days but again, there was a huge explosion after which the warning sirens are buzzing continuously. The cold is also increasing… We have also taken rice from our neighbours to eat.”

“We tried to take a taxi but even the taxi drivers are over-charging. I don’t even have money… the local (Ukrainian) residents are helping us," said Rajkumar.

While speaking to IANS Rajkumar also said that he had contacted a leader in India who had assured him of help, but now his family has lost hope and are trying to move out from the capital on their own.

He also spoke about his neighbours asking him to pick up gun against the Russian invasion and defend his family but he refused.

Amid the ongoing conflict, India has reported two casualties from Ukraine so far. Both were students of medical science. 

Until yesterday, the Indian government had brought back 3,352 stranded Indian nationals from Ukraine under 'Operation Ganga'.
