Vijayakanth Death Anniversary: DMDK members led by party General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth took a rally from State Election Commission office to Vijayakanth’s memorial in Koyambedu.
Vijayakanth Death Anniversary: On the first death anniversary of 'Captain' Vijayakanth, founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), thousands of fans and party functionaries gathered at the DMDK party office in Chennai on Saturday to pay homage to the actor-turned politician. As part of the anniversary, DMDK workers undertook a silent rally despite the Chennai police denying permission.
Led by DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth, the rally commenced from the State Election Commission office and culminated at Vijayakanth’s memorial in Koyambedu. Earlier, DMDK Deputy General Secretary LK Sudhish had sought permission from Joint Commissioner (Western Zone) DIG P Vijayakumar for the march. However, even though they did not receive approval, the party chose to go ahead with the silent rally, as per a report on DT Next. Several fans and supporters gathered for the rally disrupting traffic in Koyambedu area.
On Saturday, fans and party workers from various parts of Tamil Nadu gathered in large numbers outside Vijayakanth's memorial in DMDK party office to pay their respects underscoring his enduring popularity.

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam and Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman paid floral tribute to DMDK chief 'Captain' Vijayakanth.
Earlier, Premalatha Vijayakanth and her sons invited prominent leaders, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, and TVK leader Vijay, to the memorial event.
Vijayakanth, a celebrated actor-turned-politician, passed away on December 28 last year due to health issues. Born as Vijayaraj in southern Tamil Nadu, Vijayakanth rose to fame and gained several titles for himself including 'Puratchi Kalaignar', or 'revolutionary artist' and 'Karuppu' MGR or black MGR.
